You don’t hear of many doctors making house calls anymore. But for Minot doctor, Kimberly Krohn, house calls are a regular part of her day.
“For some of my patients, it’s the best option. Some can’t leave the home because of mental or physical health issues and this is a nice service we can provide,” explains Dr. Krohn.
She was recently recognized for her work; the North Dakota Medical Association presented her with its Physician Community and Professional Services Award for 2017. Dr. Krohn was nominated by a member and then selected by a committee.
“It’s a pretty big honor because it’s one person per year from the whole state that’s recognized. And it’s nice to have such a big award come from your peers.”
As a family medicine specialist, Dr. Krohn sees a variety of patients.
“I’m lucky because I get to practice full scope family medicine. It’s a comprehensive, patient centered practice,” she explains. “I follow my patients where they need to be. I have an outpatient clinic, but I follow my patients to the hospital, nursing home, or to their homes with home visits. I get to do a little of everything and that’s what appeals to me about family medicine. There is variety and opportunity to be a better doctor for my patients.”
Dr. Krohn spent nearly 20 years at UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences Center for Family Medicine of Minot and joined Trinity’s medical staff last year. In 2014 she was named North Dakota Family Physician of the year.
