Proverbs 31:8

That’s a verse Stacy Schaffer has taken to heart. It led her to start working on the issue of human trafficking 11 years ago, and two years ago to start the nonprofit 31:8 Project, designed to educate all people on human trafficking.

“Day in and day out it’s just really been a passion of mine,” says Stacy. “As more people speak out on the topic we can truly make a difference.”

Stacy was recently recognized for the difference she’s made. She was awarded the North Dakota Association of Nonprofit Organizations’ 2017 Emerging Leader Award. The award recognizes an individual who has made a significant impact in strengthening the North Dakota nonprofit sector in a short amount of time through commitment to leadership, volunteerism, and/or philanthropy. Individuals must be nominated for the award and must have 15 or fewer years of leadership experience.

“We’ve been able to make an impact through 31:8 Project in parts of North Dakota. We hope to grow that in the coming years. I believe in serving others and preserving human rights. It comes back to being a voice for a voiceless,” Stacy says.
